What are Electric Kettles

Electric kettles use electricity to produce heat and boil water. The 2 main components of an electric kettle are heat and a container to hold the water. In electric kettles, there is a heating mechanism that uses electricity to produce heat and boil water. Unlike gas fired kettles, electric kettles usually have a shut off mechanism to shut off the kettle once the water is boiling. They also shut off if there is no water in the kettle. Some electric kettles have temperature settings for different types of drinks, such as different types of teas and coffees.

Benefits of Electric Kettles vs. Traditional Tea Kettles

Safety

One of the main benefits of electric kettles is safety. Electric kettles don’t use an open flame or flammable gasses. You don’t have to watch an electric kettle to make sure the kitchen doesn’t get set on fire. If you are like me and have children, you tend to forget things. I have been known to put something on the stove and then forget about it. Then you come back to a burnt skillet! I’ve also put water in a pot to boil and forgot about it. When I realized my mistake, all the water had evaporated!

Efficiency

There are debates regarding what the best kettle is for the environment and energy efficiency. Some say gas is more efficient because you are using energy directly from the source. Most people agree that electric kettles are more efficient than using a microwave to heat water. You can check out the debate on electric kettles here!

Control

You tend to have more control and awareness with electric tea kettles as opposed to stove fired kettles and microwaves. Many electric kettles have temperature buttons where you can choose just how hot your water gets. Electric tea kettles also have light indicators that tell you when they are heating, when they are off, and when you tea is ready.

Easy to Use

After the initial earning curve, electric tea kettles are easier to use. They don’t require a stove, just an electrical outlet, so you can just plug them in anywhere. To start heating water, all you have to do is press the start button or lever. That’s it. You don’t have to light a stove, or guess how long it will take in the microwave.

More Features

Many new electric kettles come with cool LED lights that light up the water as it boils. You can see the bubbles light up against the blue light and it looks really cool! Some electric kettles also have a feature where you can keep the water warm or at a certain temperature for 12 hours! Maybe you are having a party and want to keep the hot tea going for a while! Or it’s good if you like a warm drink for breakfast AND lunch. Many electric kettles also have double insulated walls, so although the water is hot, the outside of the kettle will not burn your hands.
